Expecting rain at Disneyland? Don’t head back to the hotel (if you do, you’ll miss some seriously low wait times)! Some of my family’s favorite Disney memories have happened in a Disneyland downpour, and the secret isn’t just “toughing it out,” it’s having the right gear.
📌 Take a look at this list and then grab my 7-page Disneyland Packing List to make packing even easier!
Here’s my personally-tested must-have Rain Gear Guide for Disneyland, with links to my favorite items:
Reusable Ponchos for Rain at Disneyland
Forget those $1 plastic ones that cling to your skin and rip when you need them most.
I always pack Zip-Up Ponchos for adults and kids. They are durable enough to last the whole week, and the zipper makes it so much easier to take off when you duck into a shop or a ride. Plus, they come with their own storage bags, so you aren’t stuffing a dripping wet mess into your backpack.
Pro Tip: get them in bright colors, so you can tell who’s who when dodging rain drops.
Footwear is Everything, Especially in the Rain
Soggy sneakers are the fastest way to a grumpy afternoon. I swear by Reef Waterproof Sandals. They have the support you need for 20,000 steps but won’t hold water like leather or canvas shoes. Plus, they have a strap so you won’t lose them on Soarin’! My kids also love wearing sandals on rainy days, so they can splash in puddles and not worry about getting their shoes wet.
Pro Tip: Pack a pair of dry socks in a Ziploc bag. If it gets chilly, you’ll be so glad you have them (even if you might look a little silly).
Keep the Stroller Dry
If you’re bringing “littles,” a stroller rain cover is non-negotiable.
It keeps the “home base” dry so the kids have a cozy spot to nap or snack while the clouds pass. It’s a lot easier to navigate crowds in ponchos and a downpour when you know your littlest ones are riding along comfortably. It’s also great for keeping your backpacks and souvenirs dry while you go on a ride.
Pro Tip: Look for one with a little vent to keep the kids comfy, and velcro tabs to keep it put all day!
Other Rain Helpers for Families
✔️ Small towel so you can dry off tables and chairs when you take a break to eat
✔️ Ziplocs are a lifesaver – you can keep your electronics safe in one and put your wet socks in another.
